The Disaster Area Designs qCONNECT can support up to eight 1/4" TRS MIDI devices, one USB MIDI device, and 5-pin DIN. Read the qCONNECT manual to get familiar with its features and setup.
The process is similar on other Disaster Area Gen 3 controllers.
TRS MIDI Setup
Each 1/4" jack on the qCONNECT is assigned to a device and MIDI channel. Refer to the qCONNECT manual to find the correct channel for each device. For example, the 1/4" jack above the USB receptacle is DEV.A on MIDI channel 1.
Connections:
- Connect the CTRL port of the pedal to one of the qCONNECT output ports using a 1/4" TS to TS (mono) cable.
- Refer to the qCONNECT manual and note the device (DEV.A, DEV.B, etc.) and MIDI channel for the output.
Configure the pedal:
- Open the web editor for your pedal using Google Chrome.
- On the Ctrl Port tab, set CTRL Port Mode to MIDI In (TRS).
- Click Save.
- On the Config tab, set MIDI Channel to the correct channel for the qCONNECT output.
Configure the qCONNECT:
- Set the device (e.g., DEV.A)to match your pedal, for example, PRT2 for Particle 2 or TENS for Tensor.
- Use PRT2 for our other pedals (Bitmap, Context, Raster).
- For devices A-F, set the control port configuration (e.g., CFG.A) to TIP.
- Hold the right footswitch to save the qCONNECT settings.
Troubleshooting:
- Are you using a TS to TS (mono) cable? TRS cables will not work.
- Is CFG._ set to TIP?
- Does the pedal's MIDI channel match the qCONNECT output jack?
USB MIDI Setup
One USB MIDI device is supported, which must be set to MIDI channel 1 and configured as DEV.A on the qCONNECT. That is the default channel for our pedals, but you can also set it using our web editor.
Configure the pedal:
- Open the web editor for your pedal using Google Chrome.
- On the Config tab, set MIDI Channel to Channel 1.
Connections:
- Connect the pedal to the qCONNECT using a USB-A to Mini-B cable and the Disaster Area gHOST Adaptor Cable.
Configure the qCONNECT:
- Set the A device (DEV.A) to match your pedal, for example, PRT2 for Particle 2 or TENS for Tensor.
- Set USB to HOST.
- Hold the right footswitch to save the qCONNECT settings.
